Maintenance workers servicing an idled tower crane ruffled more than a few feathers in downtown Portland when they simply moved the boom while performing routine monthly maintenance to keep the crane in good working condition,
Due to a lack of funding, the crane has been idled since March 2009. The sudden operation of the crane was definatelyt not a sign that work is resuming at Park Avue West, the long-stalled office tower at 728 S.W. Ninth Ave.
Neverbeing far from the centre of controversy, the cranes owner recently sued TMT over the crane in Multnomah County Circuit Court in July saying the equipment intrudes on its ability to use its property, which is next door at 701 S.W. Broadway St.
Unfortunately, the crane is designed to actlike a weather vane and swings in the wind. Under normal cercumstances, this crane is configured so that the boom does not extend over the Nordstrom building.
